Glenfiddich has launched the fourth concept in its Experimental Series with Glenfiddich Fire & Cane, a combination of smoky whisky finished in sweet rum casks.

A fusion of two flavours, Fire & Cane has been inspired by the early innovation of Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman. His Experimental Series was initiated in 2003 when he ran peated spirit through the Glenfiddich stills, breaking whisky conventions within the single malt category and ultimately setting the foundation for the unique profile of Fire & Cane.

With a bold pairing of smoky whisky with non-peated malts matured alongside bourbon casks, Fire & Cane highlights Glenfiddich’s sweet and fruity signature style. Finished in Latin rum casks, the distiller said the whisky has a surprising overlay of caramel toffee sweetness.

“This new single malt truly encapsulates the spirit of experimentation. We started with a question - what would happen if we did something with peat that we had not done before? The answer is an unconventional and unexpected whisky, one that is truly surprising,” said Glenfiddich Malt Master, Brian Kinsman.

The newest expression in the Experimental Series provides an explosion of campfire smokiness with oak and peaty notes, finished with lingering woodiness. The cane provides long-lasting sweetness by merging rich sweet toffee with green fruit character, baked apple, and toasted marshmallow with soft spice. Rum casks have been used to balance dryness of the phenols and drive sweetness.

“By spending three months in sweet rum casks, the final whisky creates a different sensory experience for different palates, with some experiencing unusual smoky notes and others toffee flavours. It’s a bold combination, which I’m sure will appeal and intrigue single malt enthusiasts as well as those looking to try something new and different,” explained Luke Sanderson, Glenfiddich Brand Ambassador.

Fire & Cane is dubbed ‘neo-tropical’ and Glenfiddich has crafted cocktails that give a modern twist to traditional Tiki drinks. This summer, consumers will have the opportunity to experience these unique pairings at leading cocktail and whisky bars and restaurants across the country.

Glenfiddich Fire & Cane is now available in Australia through premium bars and liquor stores nationally at a recommended retail price of $85 per 700ml bottle.
