Hardys is celebrating 165 years of winemaking by unveiling a luxurious 165th Anniversary Cabernet Shiraz.

Hardys Chief Winemaker, Paul Lapsley (above), said this unique wine is a masterclass of blending and has been a pleasure to craft.

“From the outstanding 2014 vintage, this Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz is made using our significant viticultural resources. We have combined exceptional fruit grown in McLaren Vale, Frankland River and Coonawarra to produce what is a quintessential Australian red blend.

“It is a wine with a rare and harmonious combination of complexity, power and grace. It possesses exceptional colour, density, length of structure and a very fine tannin structure. It’s safe to say this is probably the first time in Australia that we’ve seen a regional blend like this,” said Lapsley.

Hardys founder, Thomas Hardy, pioneered a unique winemaking philosophy; one of blending between varieties and regions to make the very best wines possible.

“This tradition and innovative spirit continues today and this Cabernet Shiraz is the pinnacle of our winemaking ethos,” said Lapsley.

The fruit was sourced from old vines, hand-picked, fermented in traditional open vats and matured in French oak barriques. The wine highlights the outstanding individual characteristics of its provenance in a richly crafted and powerful style that will live for decades in the bottle.

There will only be 2148 bottles (RRP $250) and 234 magnums (RRP $500) of the Hardys 165th Anniversary wine available globally.

The Hardys 165th Anniversary Cabernet Shiraz is available in both 750ml and 1500ml and comes in a striking gift box. It will be sold in select retail stores throughout the country and at www.hardyswines.com.
