Heavy rain over the last few days has Hunter winemakers worried for the 2015 red vintage. While the majority of white grapes have been picked in the region, the reds are not quite ready. Weather stations in the region have recorded 40mm of rainfall. Hunter Valley Vigneron and Winemaker, Andrew Margan, says the rain could not have come at a worse time, due to the fact that the grapes are almost ripe, and says that some of the fruit is already showing signs of damage. According to Mr. Margan the white vintage so far has been fantastic however, and that there’s hope for the reds if the rain clears soon. “We’ve just got to hope this weather goes away and we get a chance to pick the things”, Mr. Margan said.
