Hirsch Wine Group, owners of Yarra Valley winery Hirsch Hill, has announced the release of its first ever kosher wine, the Herschel Kosher Rosé 2024.
To be labelled as kosher, wine must be produced in accordance with kashrut Jewish dietary laws, of which forbid common winemaking practices such as the use of organic fertilisers in the vineyard and the use of animal-based additives in the winery.
Launched under the Group’s new Herschel label, the Kosher Rosé stands as a new player in the Australian kosher wine category and will reflect a classic Yarra Valley Rosé profile. offering flavours of juicy raspberry, cranberry, and a hint of pink grapefruit.
Ben Hirsch, who is deeply connected to his Jewish roots and community, says the new release was decided upon after recognising the need for high quality kosher wine in Australia.
“We are redefining what kosher wine means in Australia, moving beyond traditional perceptions to offer a diverse and enticing range of alternatives,” he said.
“We are proud to offer a quality Kosher Rosé that we hope will become a new favourite within the community and a staple in the Hirsch Hill brand.”
Chief Winemaker Peter Mackey added, “pasteurised from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, the making of this wine has been a labour of love; carefully testing, refining and perfecting the wine to bring the very best quality kosher rosé to the Australian community.”
