Congratulations to Old Young's and Hoochery Distillery on sharing the top honour of Champion Australian Distiller at The Australian Distilled Spirits Awards 2017.
The 2017 Australian Distilled Spirits Awards (ADSA) were announced last night in Melbourne. It's the third year of the awards, which are conducted by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), the organisation responsible for the Australian International Beer Awards and the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.
This year, the awards attracted 240 entries from nearly 70 producers.
Old Young’s, Henley Brook, WA and Hoochery Distillery, Kunnunarra, WA, both received the exact same average across their top three scoring entries.
Old Young's wrote on Facebook: "Old Young's has won Champion Australian Distillery!!! We love all the talented and creative people in the Australian Craft Spirits industry so getting this kind of recognition is both humbling and inspiring! Our Pure No 1 won the Trophy for Champion Vodka for the 2nd Year running, our new Six Seasons Gin won a Gold Medal and we have won a bunch of other medals to go with it. To everyone who has visited the tasting room or bought a bottle over the last 11 months thank you so much and we hope we see you again soon!! Congrats to Spike and the Hoochery who we shared the title with."
Meanwhile, distillery manager Kalyn Fletcher (pictured) wrote: "Champion Rum AND Champion Distillery!! What a great night for a Rum Distillery in the Kimberley."
It's been a huge week for Old Young's. Owner James Young had only just arrived back in the country after taking out a swag of awards at the 2017 American Distilling Institute Awards in Baltimore, United States.
Old Young's Distillery Pure No.1 Vodka won Best International Vodka at the awards, Best in Category for its Pavlova Flavoured Vodka, along with two Gold medals, two Silver medals and a Bronze.
