Conducted every second year, the biennial return collects information about liquor licences across the state, including statistics on trading hours, venue size, patron capacity, liquor accords and employment, among others.
According to the report, employment in 2012-13 increased by 23 per cent among volunteer staff; 17 per cent among casual staff; 13 per cent among full-time staff; and 9 per cent among part-time staff.
Specifically, the report found a total 59,647 full-time staff were employed in a usual trading week between 2012-13, followed by 36,453 part-time staff, 93,888 casual staff, 5,608 apprentices/trainees and 7,882 volunteers.
The organisation says the results show the hospitality industry continues to be “a strong and significant contributor to the NSW economy”.
In addition however, the report also found that the trading hours across a week for packaged liquor licences decreased, while trading hours in the on-premise increased. The full impact of the 10pm closing time for packaged licences is expected to show in the 2014-15 biennial return.
