Huon Hooke has awarded the House of Arras EJ Carr Late Disgorged 2006 with 97 points, describing it as, “rich and mouth-filling, packed with flavour and richness, a trace of phenolic grip which is totally in harmony with the big presence of the wine. It lingers very long on the finish. Very impressive! It packs the kind of power seldom seen outside of very high-end Champagne.”
His review aligns with Decanter Magazine which also awarded the wine top honours in its 2021 World Wine Awards, with 97 points, along with the Vintage Rosé 2008.
House of Arras Chief Winemaker Ed Carr knows that Tasmainia’s sparkling wine belongs on the world stage.
He says, “Globally, consumers increasingly recognise that Tasmanian sparkling sits right up there alongside the likes of Champagne and other benchmark sparkling wines of similar age. Aside from the fact that House of Arras wines are enriched by exceptional length in tirage, the superb quality of our grapes can be entirely attributed to Tasmania’s second-to-none environment. It’s truly a place like no other,” continues Carr.
With its age-old soils, cooler temperatures, long summer days and maritime influences, Tasmania is widely regarded as one of the most remarkable sparkling wine regions in the world. House of Arras only sources Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes from the region’s premium vineyards, harnessing the character and expression of each sub-region to craft the world-class sparkling wines.
Mr Carr is particularly excited by the Grand Vintage 2013 and Blanc de Blancs 2013 which he says are particularly exciting features of the vintage.
”Both are distinct expressions of the spectacular Tasmanian vineyards they were sourced from, classic in style with a perfect balance that will continue to age gracefully. This year’s collection also features the Brut Elite Cuvée 1601, an elegant multi-vintage blend that is now in its tenth release,” says Mr Carr.
This year’s vintage also includes the inaugural release of two new varieties: Origin South Brut Cuvée and A by Arras Rosé.
