The industry bid farewell to wide-range liquor wholesaler, Southern Independent Liquor (SIL) over the weekend, after the company held a farewell dinner on Friday evening, marking the end of an era with employees and friends of SIL. The company ceased operations in March, following the acquisition of the business by ALM (Australian Liquor Marketers).

Addressing more than 120 guests at the farewell dinner held at the Sandringham Yacht Club, ex-Managing Director of SIL, David Stephenson said he would miss the strong sense of family the company enjoyed with its staff and customers.

“Throughout our 14 years in the industry, SIL was able to build very close business and social relationships with staff, directors and customers and this will be missed.

“SIL and the iconic Duncan’s brand in particular achieved many outstanding results and milestones in the industry and we also made a huge impact on growing independent strength. I wish all of our valued staff and customers the very best for the future.”

Mr. Stephenson also announced however that while he’ll be stepping down as MD of SIL, he will however be continuing his role as Managing Director of Southern Independent Liquor Groups Australia (SILGA).

“SIL is no longer operating as a wide-range liquor wholesaler and marketing group, however we have moved into a new phase as a logistics, distribution and storage business for liquor and general storage.

“Trading as Southern Independent Liquor Groups Australia (SILGA), we still hold the lease for our 7,600 square metre warehouse in Dandenong South and we are using this facility to provide a fully bonded warehouse service.

“The SILGA bonded warehouse is now up and running and providing logistics, distribution and storage services. We are very pleased with the level of interest we have received so far and will continue to engage new customers,” he said.

SILGA Business Manager, Michael David (mdavid@silga.com.au or 0403 052 002) should be contacted for all general trade enquiries.
