The Keepers of the Quaich society welcomed its newest members at a meeting at Blair Castle in the Highlands of Scotland this month. Inductees travelled from seventeen countries and included Pernod Ricard Australia's National Spirits Education Manager, Ben Davidson.
The society is one of the most exclusive and highly-regarded in the world, founded in 1988 to represent and uphold the Scotch whisky industry internationally.
New members are only inducted once every two years and are invited in recognition of the significant contributions they have made to the well-being of the industry. Members must have worked in the industry for a minimum of five years, but many have dedicated their entire careers to their chosen field.
Davidson has dedicated over 20 years of his life to the promotion and advocacy of Scotch whisky, through more than 500 whisky tastings and training sessions for the Chivas Brothers Whisky portfolio with Pernod. Davidson now joins 2,503 other life members of the Keepers of the Quaich society.
"It means a tremendous amount to have been inducted into the lifelong whisky society Keepers of the Quaich. There is little more satisfaction than being recognised and acknowledged by your industry peers. I will honour the society by continuing to be a resolute advocate for whisky," Davidson told drinks bulletin.
"The induction ceremony exceeded expectations in every sense. Held in the historical Blair Castle in a setting that was dripping with hundreds of years of history. If the walls there could talk they would weave a fascinating tale! The 45 ‘Keepers’ were all inducted in alphabetical order and one by one we were called forward and asked to place one hand on the Grand Quaich and to swear an oath of dedication to the society and to Scotch whisky."
"A gala dinner followed and much whisky was enjoyed by all!"
