Adam Trewin has been appointed Sales Director for Australia at Lark Distilling Co, joining Tasmania’s first whisky distillery in its 30th anniversary year.

Sydney-based Mr Trewin joins Lark following a six year stint with Spirits Platform. His new remit includes leading the national sales team and building strategic trade partnerships to create a luxury Australian single malt category. In addition to Lark’s whiskies, Mr Trewin is also responsible for Callington Mill Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky, Poltergeist Gin and Forty Spotted Gin.

Mr Trewin says, “This role will allow me to use my experience to build Lark and Callington Mill to extraordinary heights. This is the start of something big! I can’t express how excited I am to be joining the team at Lark, I am proud to be representing distilleries producing such high quality spirits.”

In 1992, Lark’s founder, Bill Lark, was granted the first distiller’s license in Tasmania in 154 years and he started out with a makeshift still on a kitchen table. Today the distillery produces and serves premium Tasmanian spirits across four sites: Lark Distilleries operate at Coal Valley, Bothwell and Pontville (all in Tasmania) and House of Lark Hospitality includes the original cellar door, whisky kiosk, Forty Spotted Gin Bar and the newly opened whisky bar, The Still.

Production capacity across all sites is 500,000 litres per annum and the distillery's $40m acquisition of Pontville Distillery last October accelerated Lark’s export strategy by twelve months and made it the the only Tasmanian whisky distillery with its own cooperage. Development of a one million litre greenfield distillery on the 40 hectare site at a cost of $13m is set to commence soon.

By the end of FY22, Lark expects to have $430m of whisky under maturation, doubling its revenue compared to last year.

Bill Lark, Founder and Global Ambassador at Lark Distilling Co, said Lark at Pontville points to the exciting future of Australian whisky. I could never have imagined 30 years ago from my kitchen bench, where that very first bottle of Lark was made, that in 2022 we’d be producing some of the world’s best whiskies across three exceptional distilleries right here in Tasmania and all from Australia’s first certified carbon-neutral distiller.”

Today Lark is one of the most celebrated distilleries in Australia and continues to shine on the international stage. It has led the charge of the Australian whisky market which continues to grow and grow, and it was an International Wine & Spirit Competition finalist for Worldwide Whisky Producer of the Year in 2020 and 2021.

In its 30th year, there is no doubt that Lark Distillery will continue grow at home and abroad, and that Mr Trewin will be one very busy sales director.
