This is the first time the vintage Cuvée Rosé - one of the House’s most prestigious Champagnes - has been available in Australia, and while the market for rosé Champagnes is relatively small here, the brand is hoping the new release will help to grow the category; working with a number of leading on-premise venues to introduce consumers to the latest vintage alongside delicate cuisine.
The Alexandra Grande Cuvée Rosé recognises Bernard de Nonancourt’s contribution to the Laurent-Perrier group as founding President and the first to grow the brand globally.
Bernard was also responsible for the first vintage release of this Champagne, celebrating his eldest daughter, Alexandra Pereyre de Nonancourt’s marriage in 1987. Continuing the tradition, Laurent-Perrier will only release the expression when the vintage is of the highest of quality.
2004 marks the seventh release of the Cuvée Rosé and is an 80/20 per cent blend of pinot noir and chardonnay, respectively, with grapes sourced from a number of the most prestigious Champagne Villages, including Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzenay, Avize, Cramant and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
According to Laurent-Perrier Export Director for Middle East, Africa, Indian subcontinent and Australasia, Jean-Sébastien Boileau, the 2004 vintage in Champagne was “perfect”, with a dry winter and some welcomed rainfall before spring and during a warm summer.
Aged for eight years, the Champagne is already showing delicate salmon pink tones and fine beading, freshness and elegance. The latest expression has hints of wild strawberries and raspberries, followed by notes of candied citrus. The palate has a touch of acidity from the chardonnay, with complex flavours of grapefruit, red orange and a touch of toasted brioche and nuttiness.
The 2004 Alexandra Grande Cuvée Rosé comes in a unique bottle, inspired by the hand-blown bottles made in the time of King Henri IV and is recommended with light dishes, such as scallops and lobster.
