There are now less than four weeks until entry closes to the 2016/2017 BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition in Australia.

The cocktail competition, now in its fourth chapter, is among the most recognised both in Australia and on the global stage, challenging bartenders to come up with a cocktail Legacy that will stand the test of time and be remembered for years to come, aiming to meet the quality and testament of cocktails such as the Daiquiri and Mojito, first created by Don Facundo Bacardi Masso.

Previous winners have included Fred Siggins, Alissa Gabriel and Andrew Bennett. The winner of the 2016/2017 competition will go on to represent themselves and Australia at the BACARDÍ Legacy Global Final in Berlin, Germany.

For the first time this year, BACARDÍ Ocho, the oldest private rum blend in the world, will be used by contestants as one of the ingredients in their cocktail Legacy creation.

Bartenders can access the entry form via the official BACARDÍ Legacy Australia Facebook page or email bmalegacy@bacardi.com.

Entries close on 28 September 2016.

In the lead up to the entries closing, BACARDÍ Brand Ambassadors and previous winners will be hosting masterclasses in all the major cities to provide tips and tricks for the competition.

The dates for the masterclasses are:

  • Melbourne, 12 September at Garden State Hotel

  • Perth, 13 September at Lucky Chan's

  • Adelaide, 14 September at Casablabla

A Top 50 will be selected from the entries to take part in the first BACARDÍ Legacy Australian National Tasting Tour. The tour will run in October and be led by Brand Ambassador Loy Catada, who will evaluate contestants' Legacy cocktails, based on presentation, aroma and taste.

From there, the Top 8 will be invited to Sydney to participate in a marketing workshop, followed by a bar takeover, in which the contestants will present their original Legacy cocktal as well as the BACARDÍ Daiquiri to a panel of industry experts. The semi-final will be celebrated at a Gran Familia intimate dinner, where the Top 3 will be announced.

The Top 3 will each be mentored by a dedicated Brand Ambassador and will partner with BACARDÍ to market and promote their cocktail with a budget of $1,500, plus complimentary stock of BACARDÍ rum. During this promotional period, the Top 3 will attempt to share their Legacy cocktail with the rest of the country, before going on to compete in the Australian Grand Final.

At the Final in February next year, competitors will present their cocktail for the last time, before the judges select the 2017 BACARDÍ Legacy Australian Cocktail Competition Winner from the Top 3, based on their legacy and overall campaign.
