Over the past two days, Lion, TWE, and The Randall Wine Group have each received notable recognition in recent comps.

At the Coles’ 2024 Supplier Partner Awards, Lion was recognised as the Liquor Supplier of the Year for its strong customer and retail media partnering and for driving initiatives to win through supply chain transformation.

“We deeply value the partnerships we have with our suppliers – some that we have enjoyed for many decades,” said Anna Croft, Chief Commercial Officer at Coles Group.

“Whether it's across fresh food, packaged groceries, liquor or ecommerce, we are proud to work alongside such talented and devoted partners. Their creativity, expertise and commitment to the industry help deliver on our purpose to help Australians eat and live better every day.”

Next, Treasury Wine Estates was named the South Australian Wine Exporter of the Year at the 2024 South Australian Premier’s Business and Export Awards.

Kerrin Petty, Chief Supply & Sustainability Officer, was present to accept the award on behalf of TWE on the night.

“This award is testament to the hard work of our teams across the organisation who work tirelessly to ensure our wines reach markets far and wide,” she said.

“We take a lot of pride in producing exceptional quality wines in South Australia that are enjoyed by people all over the world. We’re passionate about promoting Australian wine on the international stage.”

The 2024 awards ceremony was hosted by the South Australian Business Chamber in collaboration with the Government of South Australia.

“The quality of submissions was incredibly strong once again,” said Andrew Kay, CEO of the South Australian Business Chamber.

“Choosing a winning business from the finalists was challenging across all categories, highlighting the growing number of innovative and high-achieving businesses that call South Australia home.”

Additionally, Australia’s largest private luxury vineyard holder The Randall Wine Group received recognition at the 2024 Liquor Control Board of Ontario annual awards, where its One Pound Per Acre brand was named the Best New Product Launch in Wines and Vintages.

The Group’s One Pound Per Acre brand includes a Chardonnay and a Shiraz, both of which are currently exclusive to Canada.

According to Warren Randall, Executive Chairman of The Randall Wine Group, “the Canadian market is a very supportive and important market for Australian wine. It is currently our fifth largest export market and the prestigious Elsie Award, [the name given to the annual Liquor Control Board of Ontario awards], will insure that Australian wine remains front and centre in Canada.

“The province of Ontario sells approx 40% of Canada’s total retail wine sales and is a significant influencer on other provinces like British Columbia and Alberta, so word of the Elsie award will spread from east to west.”

Drinks Trade recently posted this article exploring Australia’s five 2024 International Wine & Spirit Competition wine trophy winners. Additionally, Melbourne’s Naught Distilling’s Overproof Gin attained the classic gin trophy, with judges touting its “enticing aromas of vanilla and pepper, a smooth and integrated palate filled with berry fruits with balanced spice giving complexity, and a gentle giant of a length.”

Additionally, Ragazzi e Succo - a small batch artisanal Aperitivo company based in Adelaide - received the Best Aperitif Trophy at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition Gala Dinner last weekend. The Best in Class award winners were selected from the double gold medal recipients from the May competition.

“We are thrilled and honoured to receive such recognition at one of the world's most esteemed spirit competitions,” said Tom Hoff, Founder of Ragazzi e Succo.

“Our Aperitivo is not just a drink; it's a labour of love, crafted to provide a unique taste experience that celebrates local ingredients and the vibrant culture of South Australia. Winning this award motivates us to continue pushing the boundaries of flavour and creativity in our products.”

Unsurprisingly, the title of Best Australian Single Malt Whiskey was awarded to Starward, which won 13 of Australia’s 41 double gold medals, a tally that saw it take home the prestigious title of Most Awarded Distillery of the Year.
