It is hoped that the multi-million dollar investment will help meet demand in Asia, following Lion's partnership agreement with Chinese Jebsen Fine Wines earlier this year.

The new winery and cellar door will increase Petaluma’s production capacity to 1.2 million bottles.

Lion CEO Stuart Irvine said: “This is a really exciting time for premium wine and the Petaluma and Croser brands. Our investment here in the Adelaide Hills will enable us to meet growing demand for our brands and build more over time.

“We believe the increasing demand for premium products with great provenance in Asia is a big opportunity for the wine industry. Australia has some of the most iconic wine brands in the world and a picturesque landscape from which they are crafted. With a concerted effort to promote Australia as a quality, premium wine producer, and with the benefit of recently signed free trade agreements with China, Korea and Japan, the wine industry has a unique opportunity to shape its destiny and deliver long-term, sustainable growth in premium segments.”

Petaluma’s cellar door will be open to visitors from Friday to Monday, which Andrew Hardy, Petaluma’s Head Winemaker says will allow visitors to get closer to Petaluma’s winemaking than ever before.

“Our new winery and cellar door will make a fantastic addition to South Australia’s vibrant tourism industry, and we look forward to welcoming visitors from near and far to explore our vineyards and, of course, taste our wines. It will also be much more convenient to have winemaking, bottling and warehousing together in one location.”
