McGuigan, the brand behind Australia’s number one selling red, has a new release: Reserve Black 2020 Red Blend just in time for the festive season.
Available exclusively through Dan Murphy’s, the blend features a deep intensity and sophistication and salutes McGuigan’s iconic generosity with flavours and aromas of blueberries and blackberries, integrated delicate oak and a hint of peppery spice.
McGuigan’s Chief Winemaker Jamie Saint says the price will allow a wider range of people to experience the new wine, with the confidence of a familiar and well-loved producer behind it.
“We’re thrilled to bring Australians this new offering and expect to see it on tables at many family gatherings over the coming months. We’re confident that this is a wine that will impress both long time McGuigan fans and new.
“There’s a reason we’re Australia’s number one selling red. We take people’s trust in us and our wines very seriously, and we’re excited to be further expanding our range to offer consumers another great drop that can be shared, or enjoyed, just because.”
The red blend is a great choice for those familiar with the McGuigan offering, as well as consumers looking for an affordable wine to share at any occasion.
“McGuigan Reserve Black is the wine you take to impress your in-laws or serve for friends at a dinner party," says Mr Saint.
The majority of the fruit for this wine was sourced from premium vineyards within South Australia. The continental climate ensured a hot growing season resulting in long sunny days and noticeably cooler nights. The combination of these conditions allowed this vintage to develop into one of the region’s greatest vintages of the past decade, delivering wines of intense fruit depth and high colour intensity.
WINEMAKING
The fruit was crushed to red fermenters where the fruit was fermented on oak at cooler temperatures of 18 – 22oC for 5 – 7 days. Fermenting at cooler temperatures allows the fruit flavours to be nurtured and enables retention of varietal characteristics. Post fermentation the majority of the wine is matured in stainless steel tanks, before components are blended, stabilised and clarified.
TASTING NOTES
This bright wine displays aromas of red berry fruit with hints of sweet spice and black pepper. The fruit sweetness is well balanced with soft tannins and acid on the back palate. Showing flavours of ripe cherries, red berries, cedar and spice.
Being a luscious fruit driven wine, this red blend pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes including rich red meats, tomato based pasta dishes and pizza.
McGuigan Reserve Black 2020 Red is available exclusively at Dan Murphy’s and retails for $15.
