McWilliam’s Wines Group has released the latest addition to the McWilliam’s Storytelling range – Stolen Colt, a celebration of the tenacious spirit of founder Samuel McWilliam.

Launching this month, Stolen Colt taps into the high growth of the $12-$15.99 red wine segment, which is growing faster than the total red wine category at +14.6%.

The range consists of a Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, offering Australian consumers approachable and exceptional value red wines at an affordable price of RRP $15.99.

Sourced from the expansive Riverina region in NSW, Stolen Colt tells the tale of Samuel McWilliam’s passion and determination to overcome the challenges he faced in ‘bandit country’ in 1877. Despite being accused of purchasing two stolen horses (a mare and a colt), Samuel successfully established an eight-acre vineyard that has passed through six generations of consecutive family winemakers.

Designed with the latest consumer and packaging trends in mind, the Stolen Colt label features bold colours, matched with striking closures on a premium reverse tapered bottle to stand-out on shelf. The wine, endorsed with the McWilliam’s logo to highlight its quality and authenticity, is targeted at male millennial consumers, who have a strong appetite for experimentation and seek out flavoursome easy-drinking red wines, with food or on their own.

Stolen Colt Shiraz is a smooth and richly scented wine with intense dark berry fruits, toasty oak with full, soft and fleshy tannins. Stolen Colt Cabernet Sauvignon delivers powerful dark fruit flavours of blackberry and cassis, complemented by intense oak notes of vanilla, chocolate and coffee to further enhance its bold profile.

The new wines follow in the footsteps of four successful Storytelling ranges currently in market for McWilliam’s: On The Grapevine (Endeavour Drinks Group), Off The Press (Coles Liquor), Winemakers Cut (Metcash) and Hazy Days (Select Independents).

Jim Chatto, McWilliam’s Wines Group Chief Winemaker (above), said: “As a wine company, we are constantly striving to innovate, tapping into the consumer’s evolving palate and being at the forefront of wine trends.

"As more younger males become involved and interested in wine, they tend to gravitate towards bolder, full-flavoured reds, like Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, that are a delicious match to a big juicy steak or a gourmet beef burger.

"Additionally, consumers across the board are looking for authenticity and transparency from brands and products.

“With a rich 140-year-old history, McWilliam’s is an Australian family-owned wine company that has a wealth of true and inspiring stories to share. These tales have shaped our Storytelling range as well as the rest of our portfolio of premium yet accessible wines.”

The Stolen Colt range has an RRP of $15.99 per 750ml bottle.
