Coles Liquor expects to see Champagne sales jump by 25 per cent this week ahead of Mother's Day.
In its biggest ever pre-Mothers’ Day research project, Coles surveyed more than 9000 Australians to understand how they intend to celebrate the mothers in their lives this weekend.
Survey findings reveal that the special occasion is deemed a “home affair” and that entertaining expenses are top of mind for consumers.
Almost half of those surveyed said that they are looking for more affordable gift ideas and food spreads at home, while matching sweet treats and seasonal produce with their mother's favourite drink.
Coles says that with the cost of living in sharp focus, consumers are seeking out affordable options.
Of that group and for those intending to celebrate with a drink in hand, the split of drinks is as follows:
- Twenty-one per cent will opt for Sparkling Wine
- Twenty per cent for White Wine
- Eleven per cent for Red Wine
- Eight per cent for French Champagne
- Eight per cent for Beer and
- Eight per cent for Spirits.
For families that consume alcohol and have older children, cocktails are the most popular choice.
