The Wine:  Mount Pleasant Mountain D Shiraz 2011 & Mountain A

RRP: $75

Distributed by: McWilliam’s Wines

Our view: Maurice O’Shea, known for his ability to make unique single site wines, has been honoured with this series of three wines (only two reviewed here). Mountain A, B and D are codes assigned to light, medium and full bodied shiraz expressions.

Mountain A: A medium bodied dry red. The pick of the two we reviewed. This wine has fine tannins and a silky smooth mouth feel. Finely balanced fruit acidity lends to a mouth-watering finish with great length.

Mountain D: A full bodied dry red. Intense and spicy notes; Christmas cake and dark chocolate. Complex and velvety palate – these are old Hunter Valley shiraz vines carefully brought to life by Scott McWilliam. Balanced oak treatment and a wine that is beautifully balanced. This is an early tasting of a wine that will drink well for many years to come.
