Melbourne’s Mountain Goat Beer is venturing out of its home state for the first time with the launch of a new brew pub in Sydney’s craft beer heartland.

The iconic craft brewer – one of Victoria’s first craft breweries - has been creating delicious beers at its inner-Melbourne brew pub for more than 20 years.

But Mountain Goat Newtown will now serve Sydneysiders direct with fresh draught beer brewed on-site. First up is Goat’s tribute to its new neighbours, Newtopia Pale Ale. Other special brews will follow while Goat classics such as Steam Ale and Summer Ale will be sold in draught and takeaway.

A full kitchen will prepare meals and bar snacks inside the 155-seat venue and beer garden while a 12-tap bar will provide adequate refreshment.

Housed in a former furniture warehouse, the pub has plenty of room for the team to celebrate their love for beer, culture and hospitality.

“We have been looking to spread our wings beyond Victoria for a while now and seeing as we are turning 23 years old this month, we thought it was about time,” Mountain Goat general manager Mick Bentley said.

“Newtown is known for its arts, culture and live music, things we have always supported. We’re big believers in community and coming together to enjoy a beer, share stories and a laugh while listening to good tunes. And we can’t wait to find our place in the heart of Sydney’s craft beer and music community.

“We’ve been on a crazy adventure for the last two decades and expanding out of Victoria is the latest chapter.”

The Mountain Goat Brew Pub is now open for business and located at 435-437 King Street, Newtown. Trading hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am to midnight, and Sundays 10am to 10pm.

With current COVID-19 restrictions, patrons will be capped at 70 and will need to be seated whilst consuming alcohol.
