Murray’s Craft Brewing Co. has released five new dark winter beers, including its iconic Wild Thing Imperial Stout, plus a Wild Thing Chocolate Imperial Stout.
Released each June, this year’s dark beer releases also include a Strong Belgian Ale - The Night Demon, a Dunkelweizen - Ronny Dunkel and a Baltic Porter - Ashes to Ashes.
“Dark beers are becoming more and more popular in Australia, but the trend naturally becomes more prominent in winter. We’re aiming to give people some great reasons to celebrate and get out of the house these cooler months”, Murray’s Owner, Murray Howe said.
Wild Thing is Murray’s darkest beer – impossible to see through even when held up to the light, Head Brewer Graeme Mahy says. Now, released for the first time this year, the addition of chocolate in the second Imperial Stout makes the beer more approachable, removing some of the bitterness in this anticipated brew.
The Night Demon was made by Newcastle’s Show Home Brewing Competition Champion Beer of Show brewer Mark Bigland and Murray’s and has a toasty/bready flavour with hints of malty sweet caramels and raisins.
Like The Night Demon, Ashes to Ashes was made in collaboration with New Zealand craft brewer, Coromandel. Ashes to Ashes has a slightly broader appeal than the other four releases, lower in alcohol and mild on roast character.
Ronny Dunkel also offers an easier drinking style from most stronger dark ales. This brew has pronounced clove with hints of banana on the aroma, balanced with caramel and chocolate flavours, and will be available of draught.
