The 2014 Windowrie The Mill Chardonnay and 2013 Windowrie The Mill Cabernet Merlot are the two newest vintage releases from the Canowindra (NSW) based winery.
The 2014 Chardonnay has been produced from fruit from Windowrie’s estate vineyards in Canowindra, while the 2013 Merlot has been made from grapes grown in Young, in the Hilltops Region.
Ten per cent of the chardonnay released has been matured in older French barriques, lending to notes of vanilla oak spice on the nose, alongside notes of nectarine. The 2013 Chardonnay is pale straw in colour with youthful and fresh green hues. The palate is generous, yet medium bodied, with pears and peach dominant flavours. This chardonnay is recommended with light meals.
Windowrie’s 2013 Cabernet Merlot has been awarded gold at the Sydney International Wine Competition. It’s a great example of how well the two varieties can work together. Notes of blackberry fruit with earthy characters and vanillin oak, which will develop further with medium to long-term cellaring.
The full The Mill range also includes a verdelho, sauvignon blanc, sangiovese, merlot and shiraz.
