Tasmanian winery Devil’s Corner's expanded cellar door is opening in time for summer.
A popular stop along the Great Eastern Drive, the impressive new space will offer locals and travellers an elevated year-round destination to enjoy enhanced wine and food experiences overlooking the site’s stunning views towards the rolling vineyards, Moulting Lagoon, The Hazards mountain range and beyond.
Renowned Tasmanian architects Cumulus were reengaged to ensure the originality and aesthetic of the current site remained, while Launceston’s Anstie Constructions managed the build.
Cumulus Director Peter Walker says the team are extremely proud of the completed project and seeing the environmentally conscious strategies put in place from the beginning come to life in the expansion.
“Cumulus are very excited to see the expansion of the Devil’s Corner cellar door complete. It is highly satisfying as designers to see a place that we helped to create become so used and loved by visitors and locals alike and now with more space brings more people to enjoy this unique place.
"With increasing awareness of the role buildings play in our environment, we felt it was important to continue many of the environmentally sustainable practices that we initiated at the beginning of the project - from material selection to prefabrication techniques. The finished project has far exceeded our expectations,” Mr Walker said.
Located on a rugged corner of East Coast Tasmania, Devil’s Corner is both extraordinary and wild in equal measure, with its vineyards uniquely positioned on the edge of the coast. The Devil’s Corner team have learnt not to fight the elements but to harness them to make exceptional cool-climate Tasmanian wines. Devil’s Corner Marketing Manager Will Adkins says the expansion has taken the same approach, catering for all seasons.
“Through calm autumns, wild winters or warm summers, we have no control over the weather. But with the new site expansion, we can ensure visitors will experience the very best of Devil’s Corner no matter the season. The new site is more than double its original size with new and improved shelter and more casual spaces to be enjoyed by the increasing number of consumers visiting the cellar door each year,” said Mr Adkins.
A brand new tasting area, The Hazards Tasting Room (pictured below) is dedicated to immersive wine experiences named after the iconic mountain range.
The Devil’s Den is an impressive underground cellar that will be the home of wine and food masterclasses, private functions and exclusive events.
Guaranteed to be the perfect spot to escape the mid-winter rain and howling wind; visitors will be able to sit and enjoy the misty views of the famous Hazards with a glass of Pinot Noir in hand.
