Hobart is this week playing host to the 2024 Liquor Barons Conference which sees over 100 West Australian retailers come together for their annual catch up, update on trading, future plans and a deep dive into local food and drinks.
The Liquor Barons Conference’s have over the years earned a reputation for some of the best run and planned events on the liquor calendar, and the first evening, which featured ex-Australian Cricket Captain and local boy Tim Paine, didn’t disappoint. Delegates were treated to a matter-of-fact and insider view of some of the most interesting matches Paine has been involved in, from 'Sandpapergate’ to ‘The Long Room at Lords…’ nothing was off limits. Paine had delegates on the edge of their seats enjoying some good humoured WA v Tasmania banter. The welcome drinks at Waterline Restaurant were put on by Good Drinks Australia, Samuel Smiths & Sons, and Ponting Wines.
Liquor Barons’ General Manager Chris O'Brien said "we look forward to getting everyone together each year, and this time we have the chance to have a close examination of the Tasmanian food and beverage industry".
"Our conferences are a real highlight of the year for so many of our stores that can attend. Our stores have the opportunity to interact with the supply community, local producers and hear from the head office staff on the plans for the year ahead."
Throughout the 4 days of the conference, delegates will experience the 'best of Tasmania,' from the local whiskies and wines on offer to the art and culture at the Mona Museum. Visits also include Pooley Wines, Cascade Brewery and Lark’s Pontville Distillery.
One of the topics that will be discussed over the course of the week is Liquor Barons' recent 'Create your Kegacy' competition, conducted in collaboration with Little Creatures. This competition is currently live and will see one WA beer lover be granted with the opportunity to collaborate with Little Creatures on a custom brew. The lucky winner will be invited to contribute to all facets of the beer's design process, including deciding its flavours, name, packaging, and assisting with the brewing process.
According to Liquor Barons' Marketing Manager Eliza Schwab, "teaming up with a respected brand like Little Creatures for ‘Create your Kegacy’ not only underscores our commitment to excellence but also highlights the calibre of our in-house talent. We’re immensely proud of what our team has achieved, and we’re excited to showcase their capabilities through this exciting partnership”.
