Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Trade and Investment, MP Steven Ciobo, will open the GS1 General Assembly 2015 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney this Tuesday.

The GS1 General Assembly 2015 is a high profile international event where GS1 leaders from over 60 countries come together to engage in open discussion about the organisation’s strategic direction, trade efficiency, the APEC member economies, local and international trade and plans for the future using global GS1 standards.

The event will be attended by GS1 Member Organisations within the global GS1 community, members of GS1 Australia’s Board of Directors and the GS1 International Management Board.

Parliamentary Secretary Steven Ciobo will provide a Federal Government perspective on strategies to support local, national and international business to advance investment, trade development, innovation and productivity across all sectors within Australia and the rest of the world.

“The GS1 General Assembly 2015 program theme ‘GS1 Good to Great’ will focus on the continuing evolution of international business through the use of GS1 standards – a common language to identify, capture and share supply chain data to ensure important information is accessible, accurate and easy to read,” Maria Palazzolo, GS1 Australia’s Chief Executive Officer said.

“For the last 40 years, GS1 standards have made a positive difference and played a major role in shaping the eCommerce landscape of the global market. Today, GS1 standards are a critical part of any business moving forward in the digital and omni-channel space.”

The proceedings will also discuss how GS1 Member Organisations from the 21 APEC member economies are working with their governments and industry to support APEC trade efficiency initiatives through the adoption of global data standards.

The GS1 General Assembly 2015 opens today and will run until this coming Thursday. For more information, visit: http://ga.gs1.org/2015
