The Yaraka Hotel, in south-west Queensland, has been forced to ban emus from entering the premises.

The hotel has barricaded its entrances to keep the birds out due to them creating havoc in the bar.

The hotel's owner, Chris Gimblett, said the emus - Daryl and Carol - were hatched and raised in the town and had recently learned to climb the front steps into the pub.

"We didn't really want them becoming patrons in the hotel," he told ABC News. "Because when they do get in here, they behave a bit badly."

The emus are known to steal food, drinks and even car keys, oh, and crap extravagantly throughout the pub.

"Their toileting [inside] is not particularly pleasant," Gimblett said.
