Archie Rose Emerald Finger Lime Harvest Gin

Archie Rose has announced the details of its fifth Harvest Series release: the Emerald Finger Lime Harvest Gin. Launching publicly in September, Emerald Finger Lime follows on from the previous releases in the series as a celebration of sustainably and intentionally harvested ingredients sourced from Australian producers. For this release, Archie Rose partnered with Mark and Vickie of Marvick Native Farms, Western Australia, where they grow and individually handpick a large selection of native Finger Limes subspecies.

“Vickie at Marvick Native Farms grows many types of finger limes. When I first found out about this I was blown away — I had no idea there was so much diversity available,” said Dave Withers, Master Distiller.

“We asked Vickie to send us all the different types of finger limes she grows and we tried distilling about six varieties.”

The distillery ended up settling on the Emerald Green Finger Lime species, which are renowned for their iconically vibrant pearls and citrus flavour. The base distillate made using these finger limes proves for a gin with heady aromas of makrut lime zest, yuzu and powerful peppery pine.

“While each expressed a distinctly different personality as a distilled product, the Emerald Green Finger Lime stood out for its distinct vibrant characteristics,” said Withers.

“Grown in the coastal air of Western Australia, it exhibits a unique blend of flavours, resulting in a brilliantly herbaceous yet limey gin.”

According to the distillery, consumers should expect Archie Rose Emerald Finger Lime to display a mouth-coating citrus flavour followed by fresh cracked pepper and softer notes of honeydew gelato chervil and violets. Best served over ice with a dash of tonic and a wedge of lime

Archie Rose Emerald Finger Lime is the distillery’s fifth Harvest series release, following on from Sunrise Lime Gin, Lemon Scented Gum Gin, Raw Honey Gin, Dry Grown Rye Malt Whisky and Single Paddock Whisky. From next month, the limited-edition release will sell at an RRP of $89 from Archie Rose’s website and from its cellar door.

Espolòn Sparkling Margarita and Sparkling Paloma RTDs

Following the ongoing success of its spirit portfolio, Espolòn Tequila has announced the launch of two RTD products to the Australian market: Sparkling Margarita and Sparkling Paloma.

The first new release, Espolòn Sparkling Margarita, combines Espolòn Tequila with zesty lime and triple sec, while the second release, Sparkling Paloma, incorporates sweet and bitter grapefruit with the tartness of lime.

The two new releases come at a time of growing demand for tequila-based drinks, with Margarita now recognised as the third most popular cocktail globally whilst the Paloma is the third fastest growing cocktail outside of the top ten.

While directly inspired by their namesake cocktails, Espolòn’s Tequila RTDs are bottled at an abv of 4.5%, making them lighter and more sessional than traditional canned cocktails.

“These new RTDs are taking the traditional cocktail to the next level,” said Paolo Maronini, Marketing Director of Campari Australia.

“Our Sparkling Margarita and Sparkling Paloma offers consumers the opportunity to enjoy the cocktails they already know and love on any occasion, thanks to the more convenient, and refreshing, serve.”

Espolòn Sparkling Margarita and Espolòn Sparkling Paloma are available now at an RRP of $28 per 4-pack.

CUB revives Sub Zero

Following on from the relaunch of Foster’s Classic to the Australian market, Carlton & United Breweries has announced the return of Sub Zero exactly 30 years since its original launch in 1994. This tim, CUB chose to substitute the citrus base of the original for a zero sugar cola, making this Australia’s first zero sugar cola and cola beverage option.

Drinks Trade had the opportunity to trial the release prior to its public launch last Friday:

Our thoughts: “An easy, inoffensive, cola flavour with very little, if any, hint of booze. Very sweet.”

Who’s it for: “Ticks the no sugar box for health-conscious consumers, suited to a more youthful market conscious of health and wellbeing. Big selling point is the zero sugar in a 375ml can. 1.3 standards. Easy drinking, you’d be excused for not noticing the vodka.”

Sub Zero has an abv of 4.5% and is available at $26 per 4-pack. It will also be available on-tap in pubs and clubs around the country.
