Duxton Vineyards’ Rewild wine brand has launched a new eco-conscious bagnum format as part of an ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.
The range is hoping to capitalise on the growing demand for affordable eco-conscious products. According to the latest Sustainable Winegrowing Australia data, 78% of Australians say they consider a brand’s social and environmental actions prior to purchase. As cost of living pressures continue to increase, the necessity for accessible environmentally-conscious products is also growing.
The release of the Rewild bagnums has occured at a time of changing consumer attitudes towards traditional viticultural and marketing practices.
“The consumer mindset when it comes to wine packaging is changing, with eco-conscious wine drinkers now appreciating that a bagnum format offers many benefits,” said Tony Allen, Senior Winemaker at Rewild.
“With the packaging being at least 90% lighter than glass - and available at an affordable price point for 1.5 litres - the Rewild bagnum is perfect for outdoor group events or gatherings or for those looking for a delicious yet affordable option.”
Packaging and transportation currently account for over 40% of wineries’ emissions, with the weight of glass bottles being a significant contributing factor.
Producer of Rewild, Duxton Vineyards, has long been a trailblazer of the Australian wine industry, and became the largest certified sustainable vineyard holder in Australia in September 2021. The Rewild brand epitomises the Duxton ethos by being sustainably made, using minimal intervention processes, and being vegan friendly. With a goal to give back more than it takes, Rewild is striving to become 100% powered renewable energy, and to develop regenerative farming practices, water-saving initiatives and a biodiversity management plan.
Its range now spans 11 bottles and three bagnums, including its gold medal winning Prosecco, silver medal winning Rosé and Cabernet Sauvignon, and bronze medal winning Fiano. Included in the new bagnum range is its Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz, all retailing at $17.99 for 1.5L. The rest of the Rewild range has an RRP of $9.99 per 750mL bottle, meaning the bagnums also offer better value to customers.
Similar to cask wine, the bagnum format also has the benefit of increasing shelf life once opened, meaning less pressure to consume the product within a certain time frame.
“Not only does the bagnum hold more than a standard wine bottle, it also keeps wine fresher for longer (up-to 30 days) once opened when compared to traditional bottled wine,” said Tony.
Rewild bagnums are available nationwide from Dan Murphy's stores and selected BWS stores. For more information, visit the Rewild website.
