Mr. Jones and his wife were responsible for establishing the RD Jones Group - one of South Australia's largest hospitality businesses. The couple purchased their first hotel in 1982. Today the business owns 17 hotels in South Australia and Queensland, including the Moseley Bar and Kitchen at Glenelg, The Holdy at Glenelg, the Gully Public House and Garden in Tea Tree Gully and Salt Water Creek Hotel in Helensvale.
Mr. Jones was also Chairman of Thirsty Camel SA and was a strong supporter of the community.
The RD Jones Group will continue to be managed by Denise Jones and their son Ryan, daughter Danielle and son-in-law Luke.
Danielle said on behalf of the family: “This is unexpected, extremely sad and upsetting for all of us.
“Richard was a wonderful father, grandfather and husband. He was a true character and a remarkable man who achieved a great deal in building a business that has provided a foundation for our hundreds of employees and, in turn, support for their families.
“We are all feeling a great sense of loss and we are still coming to terms with his death.”
