“I’m planning on going hard - I’m committed to reaching $7500.”

the drinks association's CEO Sandra Przibilla isn’t the sort of woman to back down from a challenge. She is already the GO Step for Gynae top fundraiser for 2017, but is determined to keep raising as much money as she can for the charity initiative.

GO Step for Gynae is a “Get fit, have fun” fundraising activity where we ask everyone to take 10,000 steps a day for 30 days in March 2017, and get sponsored.

Funds raised go to Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG), Australia’s peak national gynaecological oncology research organisation. The not-for-profit organisaiton has more than 700 members working in 50 hospitals across Australia, working to find better treatments for women with a gynaecological cancer.

Sandra's initial fundraising target for GO Step was $2500, but she has revised it several times as she strives to get the best result she can for ANZGOG.

“I hadn’t thought about gynaecological cancer except for about six months ago when I lost a close friend to cervical cancer, and my daughter’s friend to ovarian cancer. Their deaths were just weeks apart. It was a very sad time.” said Sandra.

“Women’s health is not something to be ashamed of but we are. We need to look after our body because no-one else will.”

Sandra was instrumental in the formation of the Women In Drinks council, created to ensure gender balance in the industry and provide women at all levels with professional development opportunities. Women In Drinks has chosen to support ANZGOG as its charity for the next three years.

Sandra has personally taken on the challenge to walk 10,000 steps a day for 30 days and raise $7500 for gynaecological cancer research through GO step for Gynae.

“I’ve never ever signed up for a challenge – I’m usually the one donating to other people’s causes” she admitted.

Sandra is showing amazing commitment to her daily targets. “The other night I got home from the airport at 9.30pm and had 180 steps to go so instead of sitting down I did them right away and I hit my target!”

GO step for Gynae not only supports women who have gynaecological cancer, it's good for your own health too. “I know that increasing my steps increases my general fitness and overall health. It’s also about changing behaviour, and making me think more about what I do with my time” said Sandra.

“I wish more people would know about the challenges of gynaecological cancers. It’s horrifying, insidious. Not enough people know about them. I’m going to do everything in my power to lift awareness of these cancers.”
