Speakeasy Group – the group behind Eau de Vie and The Roosevelt - has opened a new craft beer and whisky venue in Melbourne.

Owner of the group, Sven Almenning has partnered up with co-owner and general manager of Eau de Vie (Melbourne) Greg Sanderson to open the doors to Boilermaker House and unlike the cocktail-style venues Speakeasy is known for, this new bar will specialise in malt whisky, as well as twelve rotating tap beers and 50 other brews available by the can or bottle.

“The craft beer side is definitely more Sanderson’s forte than mine”, Almenning says. “When we first opened Eau de Vie in Sydney five years ago, we kicked off with some 200 whiskies on the back bar. We doubled this to some 400 whiskies when Eau de Vie opened in Melbourne and we have some 700 malt whiskies on the back bar at Boilermaker.”

The venue also features a small dining area with a full kitchen, which will be focusing on cured meats and cheeses designed to fit with the drinks menu, while the overall theme Almenning and Sanderson are going for it’s a “fun, yet sophisticated blues filled bar”, Greg adds.

Sanderson will also be joined by Jack Sotti – 2015 Diageo Reserve World Class Winner in running the venue.
