Stone & Wood have released their seasonal Stone Beer, a dark, wintery brew produced using ancient techniques to create a robust porter-style pour.

The Stone Beer gets its name from the ancient brewing technique employed to create the unique smokey caramel notes. Hot volcanic stones are placed into a fire to heat, then lowered, glowing red into the kettle mid-brew.

This year’s Stone Beer was created using Australian and German malts with the aroma of coffee, dark chocolate and subtle hints of smoked barley. It pours almost black and finishes with a rich, smooth malt character and firm bitterness, sitting at 6 per cent ABV.

Also available in the Stone Beer lineup is the 2023 Barrell Aged Stone Beer, a jet-black porter aged for 12 months in whiskey barrels. It has a strong malt profile with chocolate and coffee flavours amplified by the fullness of whisky and oak. It has a medium bitterness and low hop profile that balances the roast malt flavours.

The new brew was tapped for the first time at Stone & Wood’s Festival of the Stone earlier this month and is now available for purchase in cans.
