Queensland’s Tamborine Mountain has launched a marketing campaign designed to encourage the return of tourists following its severe December storms. The region, known for its vineyards, distilleries and natural beauty, has since fully recovered from the damage and is once again operating at full capacity as a tourist destination. Despite this, it has noted a distinct reduction in visitor numbers.
“The heartbreaking thing is that being the resilient and collaborative business community that we are, we all recovered from the weather conditions really quickly and are very much open for business. We really need this message to be shared far and wide, particularly across greater South East Queensland,” said Judi Minikin, owner of Cedar Creek Lodges and Thunderbird Park and the driver of the campaign on behalf of the Tamborine Mountain Chamber of Commerce.
The Where The Bloody Hell Are You campaign includes social media posts and a video, and hopes to inform the public that the region is once again back to operations as usual.
Tamborine Mountain is located in the Scenic Rim region less than one hour from the Gold Coast, making it extremely accessible to both local and national tourists. The Scenic Rim region was named by The Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 regions in the world to visit in 2022, and as one of the coolest places in the world to visit by Qantas Travel Insider this year. Notable sites of interest include its numerous wineries, The Cauldron Distillery, the Tamborine Mountain Distillery, the Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation, and its various natural sites including waterfalls, rainforests, and glow-worm caves.
Witches Falls is one of the best known of Tamborine Mountain’s wineries, producing an eclectic mix of single-varietal wines including Saperavi, Lambrusco, Touriga, and Aglianico in addition to more familiar styles.
“We’ve cleared the roads, we’ve poured the wine, there’s a spot saved by the creek (you can even bring your best doggo mate), we’ve turned on the lights (in the Glow Worm caves), we have the best seat in the house (at Thunderbird Park’s Zipline) ready, our bakers, brewers, distillers, winemakers and hotels, are all open, so come and visit, for a day or longer,” said Judi Minikin.
