Designed by Glen McWilliam 50 years ago to the precise scale of a wine barrel, McWilliam's Wines has announced the grand re-opening of the newly refreshed Hanwood Cellar Door.

Officially re-opening on August 11, the cellar door originally opened to the public back in 1973. The barrel-shaped cellar door might be a novelty on the outside, but inside the year-long renovation by new owners, Calabria Family Wines, has created a modern, lodge-style haven befitting McWilliam's pioneering heritage.

Bill Calabria, AM, second-generation Winemaker & Managing Director of Calabria Family Wines, said the newly renovated cellar door will herald a new era for the Riverina winery.

"Many people associate the name McWilliam's with the Barrel and the many fond memories of rich fortified tastings inside it. The building has become a landmark in the Riverina and was a hub for much of the great history behind the McWilliam's name.

"This re-opening feels like a new era for us and a great opportunity to reconnect with friends and visitors with some incredible new wine experiences," he said.

The newly upgraded cellar door has generous proportions and features relaxed leather lounges and a long 16-seater table, allowing for up to 35 guests at a time. Warming up the space is the show-stopping 360° Cheminee Cast Iron Fireplace.

Along with the renovations, the newly refreshed cellar door wine menu allows visitors to indulge in an extensive array of top-tier offerings from the winery, including its 660, Alternis, Single Vineyard, 1877 collections and the winery's pinnacle release, the Eliza Jane Shiraz. The menu also boasts an impressive range of aged fortified and limited cellar door releases like Topaque, Apera and Ruby Reserve.

The space also includes an exclusive private tasting room, the 'Friar Room', which pays homage to the winery's retro novelty Friar mascot, offering groups an intimate setting for personal tasting experiences.
