Last Friday, the Melbourne Cup was on show at Seppelt Great Western in what was a most welcome day of celebration for the local community.

With regional restrictions in Victoria easing, it was the perfect day to be able to host a small luncheon on the lawns of Seppelt’s Vine Lodge for members of the local community, Grampians Tourism board, council and members of the Great Western CFA.

It was a particularly poignant for the local community to be able to celebrate something as significant as the Melbourne Cup in a year characterised by great challenge.

George Samios, Seppelt Fine Wine Director said, “As proud Major Sponsors of the Victoria Racing Club and 2020 Melbourne Cup Carnival, we were thrilled to see the Melbourne Cup travel to Seppelt Great Western. After the year that’s been, it’s a fantastic moment of celebration for the community, cellar door and to shine a spotlight on a region synonymous with horse racing in Victoria and the craftsmanship of great wines.”

The lunch and hosting of the Melbourne Cup falls under Seppelt’s partnership agreement with the Victoria Racing Club and 2020 Melbourne Cup Carnival and the day forms a part of the 2020 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour on which the 18 carat gold trophy visits various regional destinations in an effort to unite communities and raise funds for local causes. This is the first year where the tour is a combination of physical and virtual visits to 27 communities across Australia.

Seppelt Great Western also has naming rights of the extremely popular Seppelt Wines Stakes Day, the final day of Spring Carnival, which this year falls on Saturday, 7 November.

The Cup visited the Seppelt vineyards and historic, heritage-listed ‘Drives’ – the largest underground cellars in the Southern Hemisphere, located beneath the Seppelt cellar door.
