Australia’s best value wines have been revealed at the 1st Australia International Wine Challenge.

The judging for the awards was held during August at the National Wine Centre of Australia in Adelaide, with a total of over 350 wines from eight countries were entered and judged in blind tastings by a panel of leading wine professionals from Australia and internationally.

In the Best Value Wines category, the Best Value Red Wine ($10-$19) went to ALDI for its Blackstone Paddock Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 (its beloved 2015 vintage pictured). Best Value Red Wine ($30-$49) went to Larry Cherubino Wines, Uovo Grenache 2018 (Frankland River). Best Value Red Wine (above $50) was taken out by Lou Miranda Estate LME Old Vine Shiraz 2015 from the Barossa Valley.

An Italian drop won Best Value Sparkling Wine ($20-$29) - Prosecco Superiore Valdobbiadene DOCG NV; while Best Value Sparkling Wine ($30-$49) was awarded to Sidewood Estate Isabella Rose 2014 from the Adelaide Hills; and Best Value Sparkling Wine (above $50) was Champagne Collet Brut Art Deco Premier Cru NV.

Best Value White Wine ($20-$29) was Carlei Estate Riesling 2015 from Tasmania; Best Value White Wine ($30-$49) was Fraser Gallop Estate Parterre Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2018 from Margaret River; and Best Value White Wine (above $50) was Two Rivers Wines’ Stones Throw Semillon 2014.

Two Rivers Wines’ Stones Throw Semillon 2014 also took out the trophies for Best of Show and Best New World White Wine.

The Hunter Valley vineyard has been raking in the accolades in recent months, with its Semillon winning the trophy for Best Value White Wine of Show at the 2019 Sydney Royal Wine Show for the second year running.

Two Rivers collected three trophy’s for the 2014 Stone’s Throw Semillon, including Best White Wine of Show, at the 2019 Australian Single Vineyard Wine Show.

Meanwhile, its 2018 Hidden Hive Verdelho also won the JY Tulloch Trophy for Best Verdelho at the 2019 Hunter Valley Wine Show.
