Due to its global success, and in line with continued category growth in agave spirits, The Lost Explorer Mezcal has now launched nationally in Australia.
Handcrafted from 100 per cent agave cultivated in the sun-soaked Valles Centrales, Oaxaca, Mexico, The Lost Explorer Mezcal is created in partnership with award-winning Maestro Mezcalero Don Fortino Ramos and his daughter Xitlali.
It is a toast to empowering sustainable Mexican enterprise and protecting the ancient artisanal craft, heritage, and land’s biodiversity.
Introduced at the end of 2020 in Mexico, California and the UK, The Lost Explorer Mezcal quickly became the world’s most awarded mezcal in 2021. It has been awarded double gold, gold and silver recognition from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the most established and influential spirits competition in the world, as well as the prestigious accolade of Taste Master - the best of the best across the tequila and mezcal category - by The Tequila and Mezcal Masters 2021, hosted by the Spirits Business.
Harvested in harmony with the elements and in tune with the rhythm of nature, three uniquely profiled varietals - Espadín, Tobalá, and Salmiana:
- Espadín - Harvested after an average of eight years growth in the arid valleys of Oaxaca, Espadín, it is a subtly sweet and herbaceous well-balanced mezcal with hints of apple, ripe fruits, and a mild smoky layer to finish.
- Tobalá - Also known as the ‘Explorer Agave’, Tobalá is harvested after an average of 10 years growth in arid, shaded, high-altitude canyons. It carries hints of tobacco, cocoa, vanilla, and leather and offers a unique balance between wood aromas and umami Flavors.
- Salmiana - A wild agave varietal grows for a minimum of 12 years in a high-altitude and adventurous terroir before being harvested, Salmiana is the most herbaceous expression, offering an unexpected yet gentle sweet and spicy profile with hints of green chilli, grapefruit, and fresh agave after rainfall.
The Lost Explorer Mezcal is committed to the sustainable production of high-quality handcrafted mezcal.
Bespoke bottles are made in Mexico city from over 55 per cent recycled crystal scraps, before being hand-labelled and sealed with natural beeswax. Further commitments include rainwater conservation, the replanting of at least three agave for every agave harvested, the use of reclaimed wood and the upcycling of agave waste into both compost and copitas - traditional cup-like vessels for sipping mezcal.
The Lost Explorer Mezcal’s three uniquely profiled varietals - Espadín, Tobalá and Salmiana - are now being poured in select bars and restaurants around Australia, and available for purchase at high-end retailers and nationally online at Dan Murphy’s.
The retail prices of 700ml bottles are as follows; Espadín at $130, Tobalá at $250, and Salmiana at $300. A full list of Australian and worldwide stockists can be found here.
