In 2010, the Royal Oak Hotel in Clarendon, SA registered to become an U.G.L.Y. venue; bartender Gavin Alcoe had recently lost a close friend to Leukaemia and wanted to help make a difference in the lives of people suffering from this insidious disease. Raising $7,000 in their first year of U.G.L.Y. Bartender, Royal Oak Hotel staff and patrons got behind the campaign, taking out the state winner title in 2012 and have collectively raised $55,000 in the last five years.

Pub owner Hayley Harvey has been the face of U.G.L.Y. for the past four years, taking great pride in building up a following for their annual U.G.L.Y. event - the U.G.L.Y. Family Day, held on the last Sunday of the campaign (Sunday 15 November, 2015) every year.

“It’s a great way for the pub to hold an annual event that’s fun for everyone attending; it raises money to help the Leukaemia Foundation and it’s also fantastic for the pub, bringing locals and new visitors to the our venue.”

Around Australia, nearly 1,500 venues are holding innovative events to show off their U.G.L.Y. side. Wrapping up in just over three weeks, visit www.uglybartender.org.au to find your local U.G.L.Y. venue and get involved to have fun and help raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation!
