In 2015, a near 1,500 U.G.L.Y bartenders have raised $1.94 million to provide regional Australians living with blood cancer through the Leukaemia Foundation’s U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year campaign.

In its eighth year, bartenders across the country raised their hand to be called U.G.L.Y. (Understanding Generous Likeable You), hosting events in the quest to raise funds to help the Leukaemia Foundation.

Money raised is used by the Leukaemia Foundation to give regional families a place to call home during the months and sometimes years of blood cancer treatment ahead. The free service provides people facing the many challenges of blood cancer with access to quality accommodation during this time.

“Every 42 minutes an Australian is diagnosed with blood cancer and the impact can be greater for those living in regional areas”, says Dave Simms, Head of Fundraising at the Leukaemia Foundation.

“In acute cases, treatment needs to start within hours so for those in regional areas, it means leaving everything behind to immediately relocate to the city, adding to the emotional turmoil."

Simms added: “We congratulate the winners and thank all of the beautiful bartenders and their generous supporters for together raising more than $1.94 million - equivalent to over 24,500 nights of accommodation.

“This means we can keep more families together at a time when they need each most."

The highest fundraising U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year in every state has won a $3000 travel voucher, while their venue will receive a Hoshizaki Ice Machine or Lancer Beverage Systems products or services to the value of $7,500, as well as the coveted U.G.L.Y. Trophy.
