Mike McGinty from the Voyage of Buck in the United Kingdom has won the Patron Perfectionists Cocktail Competition.

The global competition challenged 600 bartenders to create a Patron cocktail with the same passion, precision and care that goes into each expertly crafted, ultra-premium bottle of tequila.

After winning the UK finals in London, Mike traveled to Hacienda Patron in Jalisco Mexico to compete in the global final on January 24. There, he was joined by a group of renowned international bartenders including Nick Cozens of Eau De Vie Melbourne, Fernando Fastuca of the Liquid Club Barcelona, and Brice Martaud of Le Dandy France.

Each finalist recreated their winning cocktail at the La Casona Guest House in front of a panel of expert judges. The judges included Lee Applbaum, Patron’s Chief Marketing Officer; David Rodriguez, Patron Hacienda’s Production Director; Stephen Halpin, Trade Education & Mixology Manager at Patron; and Sandrae Lawrence, Editor of the Cocktail Lovers magazine.

Following the competition, Applbaum said, “It’s been great to see how this talented group has interpreted the Patron Perfectionists ethos to produce such amazing cocktails.

“The growth of the Patron Perfectionists Competition internationally is a real testament to the global nature of the brand."

McGinty’s winning cocktail is named The Bell of Jalisco, referring to the bell peppers he used for their sweet characteristics, and the belief that Patron is the belle of Jalisco.

Looking back on the competition, McGinty said, “I’m beyond thrilled what a wonderful way to kick off the year.”
