New Zealand based Villa Maria Wine has claimed high honours at the 2015 Spiegelau International Wine Competition, receiving the title of ‘Champion Producer of the Show’, as well as two varietal trophies and an additional 12 gold medals across Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir.

“It’s a great night out when our North and South Island winemaking and viticulture teams can walk away with a trophy each. That teamed with a good spread of varietal golds and vintages is a great reinforcement our wines are hitting the mark across the board,” says Villa Maria’s Group Chief Winemaker Nick Picone.

Villa Maria’s trophy and gold medal wines available in Australia include Villa Maria Cellar Selection Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014, Villa Maria Reserve Gisborne Barrique Fermented Chardonnay 2014, and Villa Maria Single Vineyard Taylors Pass Pinot Noir 2012.

The Spiegelau International Wine Competition was launched in 2011 to provide a platform for local producers to benchmark their wines with those from around the world. The event is now a totally independent international wine show held over three days in Marlborough, New Zealand.
