How would you react if one of your staff accidentally served a customer a $8000 bottle of wine from your cellar?
Hawksmoor steakhouse in Manchester, England, had the most amazing response to discovering it was missing one bottle of 2001 Chateau le Pin Pomerol, valued at £4500 .
The restaurant tweeted this message: “To the customer who accidentally got given a bottle of Chateau le Pin Pomerol 2001, which is £4500 on our menu, last night — hope you enjoyed your evening!
“To the member of staff who accidentally gave it away, chin up! One-off mistakes happen and we love you anyway.”
A spokeswoman for the restaurant said a customer ordered the similarly named Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2001 for £260 ($AU480).
She said: “It was a very busy night at the restaurant and a very simple mistake. A member of staff picked up the wrong bottle, mistaking it for another Bordeaux of the same vintage.
“The wine went out and was served to the customer. The customer didn’t know and it was only afterwards that one of the managers picked up what had happened.”
The tweet has since received 40,000 likes, with Hawksmoor following it up with this tweet:
It's attitude towards its staff has resulted in the restaurant being recognised as one of the UK’s best hospitality employers by the Caterer.
