The West Winds has announced the early bottling of its Wild Plum Gin. The 2019 bottling of the flavoured gin was a such a sell-out success that the distillery has brought forward the date for its 2020 release.
The flavoured gin category in Australia is booming, with 126% year-on-year growth, according to the IWSR Domestic Volume Report 2020.
The West Winds Wild Plum Gin has scooping five gold medals in the past year at the 2020 International Wine & Spirits Competition, the World Gin Masters 2020, the World Gin Awards 2020, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2020 as well as the Australian Gin Awards in November 2019.
Paul White, "Captain and Ship’s Navigator" said: “Our Wild Plum releases are always hotly anticipated and the 2020 release is no exception. This is some of the finest liquid you’ll find using our native flavours alongside traditional gin ingredients.”
Made with native Davidson plums and Tasmanian sloe berries, the 2020 vintage has been designed with a warm and earthy backbone to support the uniquely Australian flavours. As well as the tart finish from the Davidson plums, there's sweetness thanks to banksia honey and the sloe berries, all balanced out with robust citrus notes.
White added: “We are proud to say we were one of the first distillers of the Margaret River region and 10 years on, consumers around the world keep coming back for our uniquely Australian flavours and style. Through hard work, planning and passion, our gins have gained national and international acclaim. Our focus has always been on filling every bottle with the best possible flavour profile.”
The West Winds gin distillery was established Margaret River, Western Australia, in 2010 and is a pioneer in Australian craft spirit production.
