Langtons Classification of Australian Wine 8th Edition Tasting Events

For the first time since 2018, luxury fine wine retailer Langtons will be offering its Classification tasting experience to wine industry and oenophiles nationwide. Guests can expect to sample some of Australia's most sought-after wines including Bass Philip Wines Reserve Pinot Noir, Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz, Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz, Rockford Basket Press Shiraz, and Tyrell’s Vat 1 Semillon.

“Our Classified tasting experiences invite fine wine lovers to engage with top-tier wines and their producers for an interactive yet relaxed tasting experience,” said Michael Anderson, Head of Auctions and Secondary Market at Langtons.

“Furthermore, we want to give these avid fans first access to these wines to help build their personal collections and find those special-occasion bottles.”

The first two events - held in Perth and Adelaide - have already been successfully conducted, with the third taking place at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre tonight. The final two events will occur in Sydney and Melbourne next week Tuesday 8 October and Friday 11 October.

Guests are able to purchase either a general admission ticket for access to 79 Classified Wines or a 1st Classified ticket to taste the full 100-bottle line-up. For the first time, guests will receive first access to a selection of Classified wines prior to their launch to the general public via Langton’s online store.

According to Michael Anderson, the 8th Langtons Classification of Australian wine shines a light on changing consumer habits.

“The 8th edition of the Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine is certainly a shake-up to what we’ve seen across the last three decades of the guide,” he said.

“We are seeing a shift in consumer interest from full-bodied, hedonistic red wines to more vibrant styles that embody elegance and complexity.

Jack Daniel's Triple Mash - 10

Jack Daniel’s Triple Mash Medley experience

On Wednesday, Drinks Trade attended the unveiling of Jack Daniel’s world-first whiskey enhancing Triple Mash Medley country music experience, conducted as part of the launch of its Triple Mash Bottled in Bond whiskey, featured in this Tasted by Drinks Trade article on Monday.

The experience, which was curated by Professor Charles Spence, paired the classic country instrumentation of acoustic guitar, fiddle, and double bass, with tasting notes of grassy herbs and peppery spice, rich toasted oak and deep caramel, and honeyed, toasted granola in a process known as ‘sonic seasoning.’

“Sonic seasoning is the process by which sound and music is deliberately paired with taste and flavour to enhance the experience,” said Spence.

“Studies show that musical accompaniments can enhance different food and drink flavour notes by over 10%... By applying this knowledge to the world of country music, we’ve been able to create something incredibly different; a composition that is scientifically proven to complement your whiskey-drinking experience, while remaining quintessentially country.”

Three Triple Mash Medley experiences will be rolled out across Melbourne (7 October), Brisbane (9 October) and Sydney (13 November).

NSW Wine’s Sydney Cellar Door

This November, industry association NSW Wine will be bringing its Sydney Cellar Door activation back to Sydney after an almost 10-year hiatus. Taking place from 9-10 November, the event will serve as a way to kickstart the first ever NSW Wine Month and will feature 40 regional producers from across 16 NSW wine regions.

"The relaunch of Sydney Cellar Door in 2024 marks the revival of an important landmark event in Sydney’s wine culture, and one that we look forward to growing" said Mark Bourne, President of NSW Wine.

"After 235 years since the first grapes were planted in Australia at Circular Quay, winemakers from across NSW are returning to showcase the diversity and quality of wines.”

Anita Mitchell, CEO of Placemaking NSW, added: "We are thrilled to bring the NSW Wine Sydney Cellar Door to life in The Rocks, a place where the very first vines arrived in Australia. Building on our relationship with the NSW Wine Industry Association and the successful bi-monthly pop-up cellar door at The Rocks Markets, this event will further showcase the best wines our region has to offer.”

The consumer event will take place on Saturday 9 November and Sunday 10 November at Tallawoladah Lawn, outside the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), The Rocks. The event is free to enter, with tasting glass and tokens available for purchase.
