Suntory Bar at Itō
This week, Suntory will be conducting an exclusive one-week takeover at Itō Restaurant in Surry Hills, Sydney. Dubbed Suntory Bar, the activation invites guests to explore Suntory’s rich history via a bespoke four-course menu championing Japanese food and drink traditions.
“This milestone pop-up marks 125 years of Suntory’s leadership in drinks culture, bringing renowned brands from the House of Suntory, -196, Jim Beam, Canadian Club, Maker’s Mark, Laphroaig and BOSS Coffee, to drinkers across the globe,” said Trent Chapman, Marketing Director of Suntory Global Spirits.
“We’re thrilled to be able to showcase the very best of Suntory’s unparalleled craftsmanship through this exclusive experience.”
Crafted by Itō executive Chef Erik Ortolani in partnership with King Clarence’s Head Chef Khanh Nguyen, the menu includes highlights such as royal red prawn and nori roll with sweet and sour miso mustard; and chawanmushi with roasted chicken, Suntory Whisky, spanner crab, sweetcorn and brown butter.
Each course has been carefully paired with cocktails and signature serves championing products from Suntory's alcoholic and non-alcoholic portfolios.
"When we opened Itō, we wanted to showcase unique and exciting dishes that are respectfully created as the Japanese crafted them," said Erik Ortolani.
"For this reason, we couldn’t have been more excited when Suntory approached us to create this epic celebration inspired by Japan’s rich food and drink culture. We’re proud to be partnering with Khanh to bring their legacy and innovation to Sydneysiders in our week-long menu."
The activation is open to the public today 13 November and tomorrow 14 November at a price of $140 per person. It will be made available to diners from Friday 15 November to Sunday 17 November. To book tickets or to learn more, click here.
The Starward Flight: A Whisky Experience to New Horizons
Melbourne’s Starward has announced a series of immersive whisky tastings across Sydney and Brisbane. Designed to be rewarding for both the whisky curious and whisky enthusiasts alike, the pop-up invites consumers to experience two of Starward’s signature whiskies: Two-Fold Wheat and Single Malt Whisky. Additionally, the experience will also showcase Starward’s (New) Old Fashioned, which was awarded World’s Best Premix Cocktail 2023 at the World Premix Awards.
At Starward, we’ve always believed that whisky should be more reflective of the Australian spirit - everything from the grains to the barrels,” said Dave Vitale, Founder of Starward Whisky.
“The Starward Flight: A Whisky Experience to New Horizons, is our way of sharing that passion with more people across the country, while offering a whisky tasting experience like no other.”
To facilitate the immersive experience, Starward has created a custom-built 12-seater theatrical pop-up distillery venue, which will be used at both the Sydney and Melbourne activations.
The Starward Whisky experience will be in Sydney from 13-17 November at Bennelong Lawn, Royal Botanic Garden; and in Brisbane from 28 November to 1 December at The Forecourt of Brisbane Powerhouse. Each 30 minute tasting costs $45. To book tickets or to learn more, click here.
BeerFest Fremantle
This weekend, more than 12,000 WA craft beer fans are expected to attend BeerFest Fremantle, which is taking place at Esplanade Park and being presented by Little Creatures Brewery.
For 2024, the festival will feature more than 16 musical performances including headline Sneaky Sound System, along with more than 65 of Australia’s finest boutique vineyards, brewers, cideries, distillers, cheesemongers and food producers.
“As Little Creatures approaches its 25th anniversary in 2025, we’re proud to be the Presenting Partner of Fremantle Beer Festival since 2013 and into the future,” said Tania Lambson, National Craft Beer Ambassador at Lion.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate both our heritage and the vibrant craft beer scene in Western Australia. Little Creatures will be pouring fresh beer from our vibrant container bar, including our West Coast Pilsner, brewed just for the festival.”
In addition to the product offerings and musical acts, the festival will also include activities such as beer yoga, interactive tastings, beer quizzes, tattooing, and beer olympics.
“BeerFest Australia’s mission is to create vibrant, inclusive, and slightly rebellious festivals that celebrate the best of Australian craft, culture, and community,” said James Harding, Co-Director of BeerFest Australia.
“We champion the artisans, the musicians, the comedians, and the creators who make our regions unique and bring communities together in celebration, push boundaries, and redefine what a festival can be.”
BeerFest Fremantle will take place from 15-17 November, followed closely by Sydney Beerfest from 6-7 December. Ticket options, which start from $25, can be reviewed here.
