Last night, William Grant & Sons (WG&S) released an exclusive new expression at a ‘ghostly’ event at Russell Hotel in Room 8 – said to be one of the most haunted locations in Australia.

The event was themed for the reveal of Ghosted Reserve – the first expression to fall under WG&S’ Rare Cask Reserves Collection – a new range from the company, featuring a number of rare Scotch whisky blends, which will be released over the next few months.

Ghosted Reserve has been made from whiskey from two long-since closed and supposedly ‘ghosted’ distilleries – Inverleven (operational from 1938 until 1991) and Ladyburn (operational from 1963 until 1975). The expression has deep, oaky and slightly oily notes from the whiskey from Ladyburn, and sweet fruitiness with hints of floral blossom from the Inverleven whisky.

Master Blender, Brian Kinsman who produced the new collection said: “I truly see this exceptional release as a high point of what blending can bring to the finest whisky, and a spirit that would win the deepest respect of our founder, William Grant.”

There are only 300 bottles of Ghosted Reserve available in Australia and it’s retailing at $650 a bottle.

The next expression to be released from the collection will be the Cruinnich, which will be released in May. The Cruinnich has been created specifically for Australian palate - made by Brian Kinsman and a group of Australian whisky enthusiasts, and was therefore named after the Gaelic word for an assembly or gathering. The Cruinnich will retail for $180.
