The Life Members were inducted by the Winemakers' Federation of Australia last week at a special awards presentation in Adelaide. Each was recognised for their efforts and contribution to the country's vineyards and wineries, helping to create a vibrant and modern industry and placing Australian wine on the global stage.
“This coveted Life Member award recognises outstanding leadership and contribution to the nation’s wine industry over and above an individual’s career achievements,” the Federation's President, Tony D'Aloisio AM said.
“In the case of John, Colin and Wolf – they have given in spades!”
Chairman of Angove Family Winemakers, John Angove AM has long been recognised for his contributions to numerous industry and research organisations and for championing organic winemaking in Australia.
“The ongoing conversion of our vineyards to organic standard and certification have been significant steps for the company, with Angove Family Winemakers now the largest grower of organic wine grapes in Australia", John said on receiving his accolade.
“Achieving these things has only been possible thanks to a dedicated and expert team who have many ideas and are committed to bringing them to fruition.”
Wolf Blass is well known for his wine brand, which he set up in 1973. Wolf has previously been awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his role in developing the nation’s wine industry and promoting excellence in winemaking, viticulture and research.
Colin Campbell is a fourth generation winemaker at Campbells Wines in the Rutherglen wine region. Colin’s lifelong passion has been to see Rutherglen muscat recognised worldwide as a unique wine of Australia. He is recognised for establishing the Muscat of Rutherglen Network and its classification system, which is now used across the country.
