George Wyndham was dubbed the father of Australian Shiraz when he planted the nation’s first commercial shiraz vineyard in 1830. It was at this site – which is now a Heritage Listed National Trust Treasure – that he dedicated his life to creating innovative and flavoursome wines.

While his proud legacy of hard work and innovation has endured the successful consolidation of the Wyndham Estate brand, it will now carry his full name. From June 2015, Wyndham Estate will formally be rebranded George Wyndham.

“This change bestows full honour to our founder,” said Chief Winemaker Steve Meyer.  “George Wyndham epitomised the Australian spirit.  With vision and courage, he embraced the enormous potential of the land around him to create rich robust wines.”

The new packaging will now feature George Wyndham’s signature as a tangible tribute to his confident character and achievements.

“It’s a bold move to change such a successful and respected name as Wyndham Estate, but George Wyndham achieved everything he did by being bold. He knew about wine and he knew his own mind. We want this brand to be about the man, rather than the place.”

The first wines to adorn the new brand will be the BIN 555 Shiraz (RRP $15.99) –Australia’s best-selling premium shiraz – followed by the equally popular Bin 444 Cabernet Sauvignon (RRP $15.99), Founder’s Reserve Shiraz (RRP $15.99) and Founder’s Reserve Cabernet Merlot (RRP $22.99).

Wyndham Estate/George Wyndham wines are distributed by Pernod Ricard Winemakers.
