Melbourne’s new alcohol delivery service Mr Sippy's aim is to be the leading independent delivery service for Melburnians who love to shop local. It is certainly the first.
Mr Sippy’s mission is to deliver drinks around the city with stock sourced from local bottle shops straight to the customer.
Founder Todd Scott says that the company aims to provide an additional revenue stream for independent retailers.
“I was using different alcohol delivery services during lockdown and noticed that none of our local bottle shops were on the platforms. I, like many others, have really been trying to shop local more over recent years but by using the existing services I was just supporting conglomerate businesses.
“After some research and found that there are 4500 independent bottle shops across the country, and they weren’t being supported by the existing alcohol delivery companies. I decided to do something about it and Mr Sippy was born."
“These independent businesses usually do not have the resources or time to be able to set up an online store and facilitate delivery. Plus, Mr Sippy does not charge the bottle shops anything to be a part of the service,” says Mr Scott.
Delivering Thursday through Sunday from 5.00pm until 11.00pm, Mr Sippy’s delivery turn around time is usually made within the hour. The operation currently services 52 suburbs across Melbourne including Brunswick, Fitzroy, South Yarra, Camberwell, Yarraville, Port Melbourne, Footscray, Hawthorn and St Kilda with plans for the business to expand nationally in 2022.
Melburnians simply download the Mr Sippy app, put their postcode in, browse the range and spend a minimum of $30*. The order will go through to the closest independent bottle shop available and a Mr Sippy driver will bring the booze to the door.
The Mr Sippy App can be downloaded on the App Store and Google Play.
Mr Sippy will be delivering over the Christmas and New Year period (closed Christmas Day). Trading hours are from Friday, 17 December until Sunday, 2 January:
- Mondays – Thursdays: 5.00pm-11.00pm
- Fridays – Sundays: 12.00pm-11.00pm
