Far North Queensland's Mt Uncle Distillery has taken out Gold in the ‘Single Cask Single Malt Whiskey’ category for its The Big Black Cock Single Malt Single Barrel Whiskey at the World Whiskies Awards.

The Big Black Cock is an artisan product using only the finest Queensland barley, aged for five years in hybrid American/French oak barrels.

The World Whiskies Awards are the global awards selecting the very best in all the internationally recognised whisk(e)y styles, promoting the world’s best whiskies to consumers and trade across the globe. With 50 international judges and entrants of the 2018 World Whiskies Awards, the best whiskies have now been chosen and will be formally announced on March 22, 2018, at the Whisky Magazine Awards in London.

Mark Watkins, Head Distiller and Director of Mt Uncle Distillery (pictured above) said: “It’s probably one of the most prestigious of the gongs you can pick up so therefore absolutely tickled pink to be receiving such an award. The Big Black Cock Single Barrel Single Malt Whiskey is an exclusive expression of Australian Whiskey and a tribute to a pioneer of the hybrid cask”.
