Building on the reputation of their popular laneway Japanese bar in Surry Hills, Sydney, Tokyo Bird General Manager Jason Ang and Bar Manager Yoshi Onishi are now preparing to open a second venue at the former site of Rozelle Tramsheds.

The venue, Osaka Trading Co., is slated to open in September and will join some of Sydney’s best hospitality at one of Sydney’s growing food destinations at the new Tramsheds Harold Park.

Osaka Trading Co. will expand on the offering of Tokyo Bird, bringing an 80-seat modern Japanese restaurant to the heritage-listed site, as well as adding more Japanese whiskies to its back bar and serving up specialty seafood offerings.

Jason said, “Osaka is considered the food capital of Japan. So while Tokyo Bird is our laneway small bar, Osaka Trading Co. is a modern Japanese restaurant with seafood taking centre stage – with great drinks alongside, of course. Osaka Trading Co. will incorporate some features of Tokyo Bird, but this is an entirely new concept with lunch options and a full-service dinner menu, seven days a week.

“Tramsheds is the perfect place to launch our new venue – it will be a destination unlike anywhere else in Sydney. It’s amazing to be standing side-by-side the incredible line-up of food providores in such a unique, iconic building.”

When Osaka Trading Co. opens at the end of September, Jason will split his time between the two venues, while Yoshi will continue to manage Tokyo Bird. New recruits will also be joining the team to help with the additional operations, including a new head chef, who will be announced in the coming weeks.

Other venues at Tramsheds Harold Park include Belle’s Hot Chicken, Bodega and Gelato Messina.
